A “Good Samaritan” from Stone who stepped in to help a man being attacked in a Stafford nightclub was hit with a bottle and taken to hospital with “nasty” injuries at the weekend.
The incident happened between 12.40am and 12.50am on Sunday 28th April next to the dance floor in Couture in Newport Road. It happened at the rear of the club near the men’s toilets.
The victim, a 19-year-old man from Stone, suffered cuts to his chest, neck and ear. He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire for treatment to his injuries and is now recovering at home.
The incident happened when the 19-year-old intervened in a disturbance involving a group of males who were surrounding a lone man and attacking him. As the victim, and others, intervened, the victim was assaulted and one of the offenders used a bottle to injure him. A second man, aged 20 from Stone, was also assaulted. He suffered minor injuries and went to hospital to be checked over as a precaution.
Two Stafford men, aged 18, were arrested nearby and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
DC Chris Lovatt, the investigating officer, said: “We are keen to trace the lone man who was initially involved in a disturbance with a group of males before the victim intervened. He may have also been assaulted and could provide us with vital information. On this occasion a good Samaritan intervened in a bid to protect the man and prevent serious disorder but unfortunately became the victim of an unprovoked assault. He suffered nasty injuries in front of numerous people who were on or near the dance floor and we are appealing for them to contact us.”

Let’s hope the lone male in question does the right thing and contacts the police, this ‘Good Samaritan’ intervened in order to protect him; a very brave thing to do.
The thought of being attacked by a ‘group of males’ must be very frightening, most people would avoid getting involved, this young man didn’t and paid a high price for his courage. The people of Stone wish him a speedy recovery and are proud to have him as a member of our community.
