The two males who were arrested in Stone in the early hours of Saturday 5th May in connection with the graffiti in and around the town have been bailed until 18th June.
The two, aged just 15, were arrested after police were alerted by a female motorist who saw the pair acting suspiciously. The two were arrested by local police after a short chase. Stafford borough’s chief inspector has now appealed to the female motorist to get in touch again as she may have vital evidence.
One of the males from Stone and the other from Stoke-on-Trent were taken to Watling custody facility where they were interviewed before being bailed.
Chief Inspector Paul Trevor, Commander of Stafford Borough Local Policing Team, said: “I had every confidence that we would make arrests sooner or later. These acts of criminal damage cause so much environmental damage and impact on the whole area and the community. No-one wants the area to suffer and we don’t want visitors put off from coming to the town.”
He continued “We have an opportunity now to ensure we capture every piece of evidence available. Those responsible ought to be ashamed of themselves. The turnout for the two community clear-ups this week are testament to the depth of feeling by local people. It’s become the talk of the town and the whole borough.
“I would like to thank the female motorist who spotted the pair and alerted my officers to them and would ask her to contact us by calling Staffordshire Police on 101 as she may hold vital evidence.”
Anyone with any information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
