Graffiti sprayed down canal in Stone

Welcome to Stone

Really sad to report that there’s been a spate of graffiti down the canal in Stone over the weekend, including the ‘Welcome to Stone’ sign near the Westbridge estate.

The graffiti is on all sorts of things along the towpath, including the new and old bridges at Whitebridge Lane and the canal milepost near to Lime Kiln lock. The lock itself has been targeted.

The graffiti was sprayed on two nights – Friday night/early hours of Saturday morning and Saturday night/Sunday morning. It’s all on the towpath from The Star pub up to the ‘Welcome to Stone’ sign – on the bridge by Yard Lock, all over the sanitary station and the engineering company’s wall backing on to the towpath by the Newcastle Road lock. Trees by the River Trent at Westbridge Park were also sprayed.

Jamie when we arrived at the sign Welcome to Stone we found one of the Whitebridge residents cleaning off some of the purple paint, ( people are amazing with their community spirit) . It’s sad to see the very old mile posts have been painted bright yellow and the mooring posts opposite Joules Court have all been painted . The obscene wording on the toilet block close to the boat yard is spelt correctly which amazes. Boaters travelling to Stone will moor up to use the facilities and will be met with this mindless vandalism. It’s not worthy of being dubbed graffiti it’s crude and not artistic. The culprits must have orange, yellow , red or even purple finger tips surely someone will notice or word will get round.
