Grants to help ‘supply chain’ businesses available

Thousands of pounds worth of grants are available for businesses who supply goods or services to the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors.

Many businesses in the borough have suffered because they normally supply to the sectors that have been forced to close because of national measures put in place to control Covid-19. But some ‘supply chain’ businesses were not entitled to financial support because the criteria only funded those that had been instructed to shut by the Government.

Eligible businesses could claim up to £3,000 for every 28 days that restrictions remain in place with Stafford Borough Council’s new scheme. The move has been welcomed by the Stafford Chamber of Commerce who say the ‘supply’ chain play a vital role in the economy and need help.

Cllr Beatty said: “In this incredibly challenging time, we know grants have been a lifeline for many businesses in Stafford Borough.

“Grants have already been made directly to the retail hospitality and leisure providers however businesses in the supply chain to these sectors have not yet received support. They too are experiencing dramatically reduced turnover.  If you think you are eligible our Business Engagement Team are on hand to provide guidance and support through the process.”

The scheme is designed to support those in the supply chain who are experiencing a significant loss of trade. For example, the grants could support event management companies, solicitors, breweries and catering companies where 50 per cent of their revenue is generated from other businesses that are closed.

Carl Croft, President of the Stafford Chamber of Commerce, said: “The supply chain play a vital role in our local economy and it’s important that they receive some support to ensure they survive and are ready to respond when the economy can start to reopen again.

“This latest funding aims to help those businesses that have been unable to access other national support schemes. The Stafford Chamber of Commerce are working with Stafford Borough Council to support our small and medium enterprises and we welcome this latest news”

If you are a business in the supply chain to hospitality, accommodation, leisure, and entertainment sectors and need help to access the grants or want to find out more, please email economy@staffordbc.gov.uk
