A challenge to “Grow a Mo Like Captain Smith” has been made by the Royal Exchange as Titanic Brewery’s pubs join the Movember fundraising effort next month.
The brewery is backing the annual fundraising marathon for Cancer Research which sees men growing a moustache for a month to raise money.
Titanic is changing the name of its November seasonal ale from A Night to Remember to A Night to Movember and will make a 10p donation to the cause for every pint sold. The brewery’s six Staffordshire pubs – including the Royal Exchange in Stone – will also hold events to raise money for Movember.
Michelle Hughes, manager at the Royal Exchange, said: “We are keen to get involved in Movember and our regulars are always ready for a charity challenge. We are calling on people to come into the pub clean shaven on the 31st October, as Movember rules require, and we will take photos for our Facebook page. Everyone will be encouraged to do their own fundraising and we will run a Captain Smith lookalike competition.
“This will be judged by Andrew Downs, a relative of mine, who is a member of the British Beard Club, on 30th November and the winner will receive a gallon of beer. Collections for Movember will be held in the pub on that night and there will be entertainment from Stone band The Blueshounds.”
