Hard-fought victory for Stone Hockey Club

Stone Hockey Club Ladies 1s fought hard to record a 1-0 win over Old Silhillians Hockey Club to keep them in top three contention.

The Enson Lane side were keen to take the home advantage and restore their winning form. The game began openly with end to end play. Stone’s defence stood strong to keep away any attacking play by Old Sils.

It was Stone who broke the deadlock. Midway through the first half, a team attack found top goal scorer Annie Holmes in a good goal scoring position. Holmes skillfully took the ball past the last line of defence and slotted the ball cleanly past the Old Sils goalkeeper from a tight angle.

Old Sils came out from the interval strongly. However the strong combined team effort from all Stone players managed to break down any attacking play from Old Sils and enable the Enson Lane side to come away with a clean sheet.

Stone will look to continue their winning form when they face top of the league Uttoxeter this weekend in a local derby.
