Hats off to bottle-top knitters!

Knitters and crocheters from Stone will be doing their bit to make winter warmer for older people across the UK by taking part in The Big Knit.

Yarn Gathering, the town’s yarn store in Radford Street, is inviting knitters to raise money for Age UK at Costa Coffee on Thursday 15th September from 4pm until 6.30pm by knitting bottle-top hats for Innocent smoothie bottles.

The Big Knit – organised by Innocent – has been an annual event since 2003.

Little hats are knitted by knitters up and down the country, who then send their hats to Innocent, who hand-pack them on to their little smoothie bottles. They are then sent off to store, and will be available to buy in Boots and Sainsbury’s stores across the UK for three weeks from 16th November. For every behatted bottle sold, 25p is donated to Age UK.

Yarn, knitting pins and patterns will be provided at Costa on the 15th – all that’s needed are your crazy ideas for hats!

  • In the short time since Yarn Gathering has been in Radford Street, Jeanette has organised so many events and special displays. Well done! The yarn gatherers meet on Thursday evenings at the Royal Exchange and anyone, however  competent they may be at knitting or crochet, is welcomed. They even have me!

Thank you for the ‘shout’ – if possible can all bring knitting pins with them, a size 4mm(old UK 8)
There will be a little prize for the person who knits the most hats on the night and for the ‘zanniest’ hat. I am hoping they can be displayed in the shop window, once the bike has gone! Please feel free to keep knitting them, deadline is early November.
