Giggles and Wiggles nursery in Stone has achieved top marks in a scheme to improve the health of youngsters.
Children and staff from the Mount Road nursery were presented with their platinum certificate recently from Stafford Borough mayor Councillor Angela Loughran.
The nursery has been working with the council to reach the awards, which recognise their work in promoting a healthy lifestyle for children and families. Part of the scheme is creating varied and balanced menus which target the needs of youngsters under five. All food is cooked from fresh in the nursery’s kitchens by cook Ange.
Around 16 nurseries and pre-schools across the borough, catering for around 800 youngsters, are involved in the scheme – looking at best practice in physical activity as well as health related learning involving staff, children and their families.
Councillor Frank Finlay, cabinet member for environment and health, said: “It is great to see nurseries making it to the highest level in this scheme. We want all children to have a healthy start in life and this is an important programme which will also benefit parents and carers too. Health and wellbeing is a top priority for the council and this type of scheme can help us ensure youngsters are getting a healthier start in life.”
There are four stages of award ranging from bronze to platinum.
