Memorial service at Christ Church for Helen Hutchinson

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church in Stone on 17th March to celebrate the life of a hugely popular Stone mum.

Helen Hutchinson – who was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 – sadly passed away on 2nd March.

Her friends Zoe Gregory and Julie Hope started a fundraising campaign in September last year after Helen was told that free NHS cancer treatment had been exhausted. Helen had been diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago, but in August 2015 was told that it had spread to her lungs. The only option left was to pay privately for a drug called Aflibercept – at a cost of £3,500 a month. Until March last year, Afibercept was available free of charge, but it became one of 25 cancer drugs removed from NHS treatment by the Government.

So Helen’s friends Julie Hope and Zoe Gregory decided to raise some money. And they raised an incredible £55,000, with the Stone community rallying round to stage a whole host of fundraising events.

Helen’s memorial service is on Thursday 17th March at 12pm, with light refreshments afterwards in the church centre. The family have requested that instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice.

Our thoughts are very much with Helen’s family and friends.
