The Stone Common Plot charity is calling on local businesses and groups to help replace trees lost to recent storms, ensuring the area’s green legacy continues for future generations.

A loss to the landscape
Extreme weather has taken its toll on the much-loved Stone Common Plot over the past year, with several mature trees lost due to storms. Most recently, the magnificent 100-year-old tree at the bottom of Mount Road Field was brought down by strong winds. Now, the charity that cares for the Plot is seeking support to replace what has been lost.
A chance to leave a lasting legacy
The plan is to plant two new English oak trees—icons of British woodlands known for their longevity and environmental benefits. Each tree, along with the necessary cattle-proof fencing to protect it, costs around £200. The charity is looking for just two or three sponsors to make this replanting possible.

“This is a rare opportunity for Plot lovers and supporters to make a direct and lasting impact. These trees will hopefully stand for the next hundred years, just as the ones we lost did,” says the charity’s treasurer.
Time is running out
With planting season coming to an end, it’s crucial that the new trees are in the ground before the end of February to ensure they establish properly. Unlike larger fundraising campaigns, this is a simple, targeted appeal—just a handful of sponsors are needed to make it happen.

I have about 10 very small oak trees that are about a foot tall which I am happy to donate if you’d like them?

Hello Christine
If you are looking for a home for your oaks, I may be able to help as I’m running a biodiversity project in Market Drayton and we might be able to have them.
