High Street based Stone Co-op Funeralcare to hold art exhibition

Co-op Funeralcare in Stone is holding an art exhibition on Saturday 30^th March to showcase the work of local artist, and client, Steve Shaw.

After his mother’s funeral in December 2018, arranged by Stone Funeralcare, Steve decided to turn his grief into art and created nine drawings to express the process he went through when dealing with his mother’s death.

The pen and ink drawings incorporate lyrics from a number of songs which Steve related to after he lost his mother. These include ‘Hero’ by David Bowie and ‘I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever’ by Stevie Wonder.

Furthermore Steve’s recently added a drawing of local football hero, the late Gordon Banks to the set of drawings.

At the exhibition on Saturday, residents of Stone will also have the opportunity to meet Steve and ask any questions they may have about his artwork.

Steve Shaw, local artist and Co-op Funeralcare client, said:

“Losing my mum was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced.  Expressing my feelings through art came naturally to me. It gave me a chance to reflect on my emotions and grieve the loss of my mum.”

Paul Evans, Co-op Funeral Arranger, added:

“People deal with bereavement in many different ways and it’s great to see that Steve has been able to express his grief so artistically. The exhibition will not only give Steve a place to share his work, but will also be an opportunity to bring the community together.

“We’re always happy to support our clients and are so pleased to exhibit Steve’s work in our funeral home.”

The exhibition will be taking place on Saturday 30th March from 10am to 4pm. The original pen and ink drawings will be available to purchase for £70 each whilst lino cut cards will be available for £4.
