A giant community Advent calendar will be revealed day by day in Stone High Street’s shop windows during December in the lead-up to Christmas.

Shops and businesses in the town centre will decorate their windows as different Christmas carols and open their windows on a particular day. The festive initiative is being organised by Stone’s Pam Pott for Christ Church, who has been inspired by similar projects in Welwyn Garden City and Brockley in London.

The last window to be opened on Christmas Eve will be at Christ Church itself, on Christ Church Way, with a life-size crib scene based on Once In Royal David’s City in the foyer. Children can take part by having a special Advent Window card stamped by all the shops and businesses taking part, with prizes given out on Christmas Eve.

Pam said: “I’m sure it will be good fun to see the windows open up one by one. Already, 20 shops have agreed to participate. This is an opportunity for the whole community to get involved and the intention is that some of the shops will link with schools and other organisations to decorate their windows. I’m sure it will attract people into the town.”
If you’d like more information, or want to get involved in this brilliant community project, call Pam on 01785 286474 or email pam.pott@gmail.com

This is going to be another lovely community spirit event for Stone! I helped with asking some businesses to participate, and the warm responses were fantastic. Let the creativity flow!!!

Hi Katie – thanks for posting a comment. It’s a wonderful idea and will make Christmas very special in Stone this year. Can’t wait to see what the shops and businesses come up with!

What a brilliant idea, I would absolutely want to do a window if I had a shop in Stone, but I don’t, I must make the effort to visit during December.

Hi Jeanette – how are you?
Let me think… it isn’t ‘While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night’ is it?!
It’s a fantastic community project and I’m sure it’s going to be a huge success
