A school summer holiday boxing club in Stone has been hailed a huge success by police officers in the town.
The six-week scheme was run by PC Andy Whitehall, PCSO Duncan Rollo and the Staffordshire Young People’s Service and got young people in Stone and Stafford involved in a positive activity they can continue now the holidays are over.
An amazing 160 youngsters attended the boxing camps at Christchurch Middle School and Manor Hill First School in Stone, as well as at Silkmore Primary School in Stafford. They took part in the National Non-Contact Boxing Awards and a range of community projects, including a litter pick and tidy-up.
The boxing camps were run by eight young volunteer mentors aged between 14 and 22 and all members of the Right Stuff Boxing Club.
PC Andy Whitehall said: “This scheme has been a huge success. Over 40 of the young people now want to join the Right Stuff Boxing Club to learn the skill and discipline of boxing and to make their communities a better and safer place to live. This is a great result for the communities of Stone and Stafford.”
