Stafford Borough Council hopes to use its vacant area office in Station Road as a temporary post office following the closure of the High Street branch last week.
The borough council is in talks with Post Office Ltd about the proposal.
The vacant office is in the Stone Town Council building and housing a post office there would provide a temporary facility while the future of the High Street branch, which closed suddenly on Friday 1st July, is decided.
A borough council spokesman said today: “We are discussing with Post Office Ltd the possibility of them using part of the borough council area office in Station Road as a temporary measure.
“It already has infrastructure in place, such as counters and cash-handling facilities, and they are considering that offer.”
Earlier this week, Stone MP Bill Cash said he’d taken the “gravest exception” to the post office closure.
He said: “I am very concerned for my constituents who need access to vital services, including for the collection of pensions or other payments and cannot simply travel on to other post offices at Tittensor, Eccleshall or Stafford.
“I take the gravest exception to what has happened and I immediately contacted the Government minister to ask what funds are available to fill the gap.”

This new Post Office cannot open quickly enough for us as it is seriously affecting our business by not having a proper service in Stone town centre!
