Housing staff go MAD for community projects

Big-hearted staff and board members at a housing provider that operates in Stone are volunteering to go MAD to celebrate the organisation’s 15th birthday.

South Staffordshire Housing Association (SSHA) is marking 15 years by launching its Making a Difference (MAD) Days project, which will see more than 55 staff and board members donate their time to wield a paint brush, grab a spade, or set to with their toolkit to work on projects to benefit local communities.

To kick-start the project, SSHA is appealing to residents, community groups and organisations to nominate projects which they think would benefit their local community.

Projects could include community facilities in need of a makeover, an area of wasteland that could be transformed into a wildlife oasis or other good causes in the community that could benefit from some ‘people power’ to make a difference.

Some of the projects suggested so far have included creating a wild flower garden on waste land and play and leisure areas for young people.

As well as kind-hearted staff, two of SSHA’s contractors, Jessop Build.Develop and Tony Davies & Partner Painter & Decorator, have also offered materials and time to the project. Other local businesses are also invited to offer practical help if they wish.

Jan Goode, director of customer services for SSHA, said: “To celebrate our birthday we wanted to create a community-based project that would give something back to the communities in which we work and create an enjoyable team-building exercise for staff.

“We were overwhelmed by the level of support from staff and board members wanting to get involved and donate their time. All we need now are some exciting community projects to start working on. Once we have some ideas put forward a panel of staff and board members will choose the most deserving projects to complete.”

If you have a project that you would like to nominate or you are a local business wishing to be involved, visit www.ssha.co.uk and click on the link to the MAD Days page where you can fill out a form to submit, or you can call the customer services team on 0800 096 8690 or 01785 312000.
