HS2 consultation opens for Staffordshire residents

HS2 LogoHS2 has today opened a consultation on the phase 2 development that runs alongside Stone.

The Phase 2 consultation covers the West Midlands to Crewe stretch and is concerned with environmental and traffic impacts, transport provisions and station improvement or creation.

Article continues after this message

The consultation allows Stone residents and those in Staffordshire to give their views on the following:

  • (a) the impact of road traffic as a result of the HS2 Phase 2a works
  • (b) the impact of the HS2 Phase 2a works on the natural environment, including but not limited to the impact on ancient woodland.
  • (c) whether there are sufficient transport provisions for passengers connecting to HS2 Phase 2a, and to address changes to general passenger movements caused by the HS2 Phase 2a works
  • (d) if not, whether the construction of new railway stations and improvements to railway stations, including any associated reopening of lines, is necessary in relation to (c)

Responses from consultees will be independently analysed and reported. The report will be laid before both Houses of Parliament and the Minister of State for Transport will make a statement to both Houses detailing any steps which will be taken to implement the findings of the report.

The closing date for the consultation is 11:45pm on 26 February 2021

More information about the HS2 Phase 2a scheme and how to respond to the consultation can be found at – https://www.hs2.org.uk/phase2a

Have you looked at HS2s ‘Need to Sell’ Scheme, which probably applies here, also possibly County Council ‘deferred payments’ scheme. None of this is easy I know, so lots of research needed. Best wishes.

Elderly parents (89) with Alzheimer’s require a care home but can’t sell their home in Whitmore, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs due to HS2. What support are you going to give to give. They have been told that the disruption will begin in as little as 2-3 weeks and last for 7 years rendering their property unsaleable!

    • Shona have they tried to sell? I’m told if you can’t sell, hs2 buy your house. Though I realise all that is not without hassle that 2 elderly people could probably do without, I’m very sad to hear about the emotional impact this has on people and the disregard they’re often treated with.
