Hundreds more people booked an appointment online to get themselves tested today, following on from the 502 people who attended the walk-in testing centre in the town yesterday – overall total positive tests 11.
The mobile testing unit (MTU) is running for four days, until Sunday 2nd August remains by appointment only.
The testing comes after a confirmed Covid-19 outbreak at the Crown and Anchor pub. Eleven people have now tested positive so far after attending the pub on the weekend of July 16, 17 and 18, but authorities are expecting this number to rise as the testing continues.
The unit will be open from 11am to 3pm on Friday, and from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
People are being urged to book an appointment before they get to the centre to ensure that tests are spread out and quueus are minimised. To book an appointment, please visit https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
Staffordshire County Council’s Director for Public Health Richard Harling said:
“The response to the testing has been great, both at the Crown Street testing centre in Stone, and at the other testing sites at the Bet 365 Stadium in Stoke or Beaconside in Stafford. By getting tested, people are not only keeping themselves, their family and the wider community safe, they are also giving us important information that enables us to manage the outbreak.
“Therefore, if you haven’t booked a test yet, please do so as soon as possible. To those who have been tested—thank you.
“We’re doing everything we can to prevent outbreaks and stop the virus from spreading. Residents can help by continuing to follow the rules to stop the spread of Covid-19—washing hands regularly, keeping your distance, and wearing face coverings in shops and on public transport.”
