Hundreds to take part in Pilgrim Parade

The procession starts from St Dominic’s Church

Hundreds of people will celebrate the 165th anniversary of Blessed Dominic Berberi’s Requiem Mass in Stone with a procession and day of pilgrimage on Saturday 31st August.

The day begins with a talk about Blessed Dominic Berberi at 10.30am, followed by Mass at noon. There will then be a procession – starting at 2pm – of the Blessed Sacrament to Aston Hall, where there will be Benediction.

The procession follows the route taken by Blessed Dominic when he was affectionately known as ‘the Father of Stone’. Starting at St Dominic’s Church in Margaret Street, the procession will go down the High Street and Lichfield Street/Road before crossing the A51 towards Aston.

In October 1841, Blessed Dominic came with a companion to stay in England and in February 1842 he opened the first Passionist monastery, or retreat, in England at Aston Hall. Blessed Dominic built a church school in Stone and the Church of St Michael beside Aston Hall, as well as a new chapel in Aston Hall.

On August 31st 1848, Blessed Dominic’s Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Dominic’s Church and his subsequent interment at Aston Hall.
