Stone’s Lymestone Brewery has created an India Pale Ale for Indian cookery school iCookIndian – and the new brew will be launched at a special celebration event at the brewery on Wednesday 22nd October.
Stafford-based iCookIndian founder Amar Harrar, who is currently appearing with his family on BBC2’s The Kitchen, approached brewer Ian ‘Brad’ Bradford earlier this year about developing a bottled ale specifically to complement the authentic Indian dishes he creates.
The result is iCookIndian India Pale Ale which, at 4.5% ABV has been carefully crafted from the finest pale and crystal malts.
Amar said: “A beer and a curry on a weekend night is about as British as it gets – and we love enjoying a crisp, pale glass of ale alongside our dishes. However, finding a beer that had the right balance in the shops was proving a challenge so we spoke to Brad and the rest is history. We’re delighted with the India Pale Ale – it’s got a brilliant balance of biscuit and spicy notes that give the dry, bitter finish that accompanies authentic Indian spices so well.”
Those attending the launch can see Amar whip up some of the authentic Indian street food dishes he demonstrates during his cookery classes and enjoy sampling them alongside tasters of the new ale itself, with traditional Indian music adding to the atmosphere.
Brad will also be giving a talk about the brewery and brewing before offering visitors a tour on the evening. He said: “We’re always up for a challenge and it was great coming up with an ale to match Amar’s brief – curry and beer are natural partners, but to get the balance right to match the subtle spicing of authentic Indian food as opposed to the more standard takeaway fare made this all the more interesting.”
The event will take place from 7.30pm to 9pm on Wednesday 22nd October at Lymestone Brewery on the Mount Road Industrial Estate, after which the iCookIndian Pale Ale will be available from selected specialist outlets and direct from the brewery.
Entry will be free of charge for those who book in advance, with a charge of £2.50pp on the door for those who turn up on the evening. To secure your space please call the brewery on 01785 817796 or email brad@lymestonebrewery.co.uk
