The event, which will be held on Saturday, 17th June 2017, marks the start of the IRONMAN weekend, offering children aged 3-14 the opportunity to also be part of the action.

Having been staged at the Shugborough Estate since the inaugural event in 2015, this will be the last year of IRONKIDS at Shugborough, before the event moves to a new home next year, so families are advised to enter early to avoid disappointment.

The main IRONMAN event – a 70.3 mile triathlon – takes place in and around Staffordshire the following day and limited places are still available.

To enter IRONKIDS, parents or guardians need to complete an entry form at https://www.ironkids.co.uk. The entry fee is £14 per child.

Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment & Transport, said:

“IRONKIDS is always a brilliant event, which grows in popularity each year and is wonderful to see people of all ages from 3 – 73 take part in this sporting weekend of IRONMAN.  We want young and old to have the opportunity to experience IRONMAN in the county –  who knows, it could be the making of our future IRONMAN athletes.”

IRONKIDS  is open to children aged three to 14 with varying distances depending on the school year of the child.

Children currently in school year one and below compete in a 500m run (accompanied by a parent/guardian); those in years two to five run 1km, years six to eight run 1.5km and those in years nine to 10 complete a 2.5km run.

Each child will receive an Ironkids t-shirt in their entry pack and a medal after completing their run.

Kevin Stewart, Managing Director for IRONMAN UK & Ireland added:

“Our IRONKIDS events are proving extremely popular and it’s fantastic to see so many kids want to take part, and experience running down iconic IRONMAN finish line. IRONKIDS is a great start to the weekend’s racing and a really fun way to keep families fit and healthy together.”
