FORE!!! Izaak Walton Golf Club is on the up with exciting developments – a new driving range and six-hole academy are under way, and a new clubhouse is planned.
The Club’s ladies section is keen to meet new players, who will be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
Ladies mornings currently take place on Tuesdays, so why not come and find out more about bogies and birdies! Don’t forget to wear two pairs of trousers in case you get a hole in one!

My hubby was a rugby man and played the game with zeal
But age took its toll and a week between games was too short for the aches to heal.
To find release from angst and stress he took up golf with gusto
He bought some clubs and some for me so I could try it also.
One day he says we’re joining a club called Izaak Walton near Stone.
Now I’d heard of old Izaak as an angling man – what had my hubby done?
Oh no says I, not me! I love my sport and always had
I’d played hockey, netball and tennis, but fishing? Are you mad?
It’s not an angling club you nelly, but a right friendly golf club says he It’s got challenging holes and lovely views, you’ll love it, just trust me!
Now I thought golf was boring and slow, a good walk spoiled no less
Full of stuffy, boring folk with great big cars and snobbishness
How wrong I was, it’s a whole new world – a parallel universe I’d say
Mastering the grip with fingers in knots, learning to swing and not to sway.
Pitching and chipping, driving and putting all challenges to be met
But always friendly faces telling me “you’ll get better yet”!
It’s a whole new language with terms like birdie, shank and tee
Loft and lie, eclectic and scramble were all a mystery to me
A maths degree doesn’t go amiss with handicaps, stableford and such
Unfortunately, being sporty, my maths was never up to much!
It took a while but now I’m hooked and love the game to bits
Always learning, laughing, cursing, dreaming of those winning hits
So ladies, if you feel your life is lacking challenge and fun – just come along to IWGC where you’ll get a friendly welcome![/box]
