Stone Jazz Club will be returning to its roots in February as it heads back to The Red Lion, the pub where it all started 15 years ago.
‘Jazz in Stone’ was founded in 1999 and saw some of the finest jazz performers playing in Stone every month, starting at The Red Lion before moving to Langtrys, The Vine and The Royal Exchange. After a short period out of the town, ‘Jazz in Stone’ will be back at The Red Lion, starting with world-class guitarist Paul Matthews on 24th February at 8pm.
Andy Burdon from Stone Jazz Club said: “In 1999 a group of like-minded jazz enthusiasts came together to promote the best in live and local jazz talent at the Red Lion on the High Street Stone. The venue became so well-known that even the great jazz pianist Dave Brubeck requested a gig – until is was pointed out that it was a small venue and wouldn’t accommodate his Bechstein (or his enormous fee, for that matter!).
“After a gap of several years, ‘Jazz in Stone’ returns to its roots from 24th February from 8.30pm on a monthly basis. The first gig will feature world-class guitarist Paul Matthews and his band. Admission is free but a raffle will be held to defray expenses. If you enjoy the unique atmosphere of live jazz in a pub environment please come along to support this new venture.”
