Jez’s beloved handlebar moustache was shaved off to raise money for Breast Cancer Care

A barber’s in Stone shaved off a man’s beloved moustache to help a big fundraising effort for Breast Cancer Care.

Karen Bloor was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2014. Along with family and friends, she’s been raising money for Breast Cancer Care since March. Despite her treatment, she committed to do at least one sporting event each month.

With the help of 11 close friends – her Army of Angels – police dog handler Karen, who lives near Stafford, has completed 5k races, an eight-and-a-half-mile run and a 25-mile bike ride since May. She did several of the events just days after having chemotherapy. Karen’s incredible efforts have seen her nominated for a Sentinel Our Heroes award.

Her partner Jez, 51, said that if her fundraising total topped £10,000 he would have his beloved moustache of almost 20 years shaved off.

Distinguished Gentlemen’s Grooming in Radford Street was the venue for the great shave-off earlier this month, and it has boosted Karen’s fundraising mission – the current total now stands at over £12,000. And with five months of fundraising activity to come, a huge amount of money is going to be raised for Breast Cancer Care. Karen’s initial target was £1,000.

Simon Probyn, owner of Distinguished Gentlemen’s Grooming, said: “We had a great night doing this and would like to thank Karen and Jez for asking us to be part of the fundraising. Karen has raised an incredible amount of money for a very worthy cause, and Jez has played his part. I’d urge everyone to head to the Just Giving page to make a donation.”
