Group Lead Volunteer
The Group Lead Volunteer is the main person responsible for running a local Scout Group. They don’t have to run weekly activities themselves — instead, they support and coordinate the volunteers who do, making sure everything runs safely, smoothly, and positively for young people.
This role is about people leadership, organisation, and communication.
What you’ll actually do
• Support and guide a team of adult volunteers who run activities for young people
• Make sure the Group is welcoming, inclusive, and well organised
• Help volunteers feel supported, confident, valued and compliant
• Ensure activities are safe and follow national policies
• Be the main contact between the Group and the wider organisation
• Work with a small trustee team who are responsible for money, buildings, and fundraising
• Help plan for the future so the Group stays strong and sustainable
You are not expected to run weekly meetings or activities, although some involvement is helpful.
What you won’t need
• You don’t need previous Scouting experience
• You don’t need to be an activities leader
• You don’t need specialist qualifications
• You don’t need to do everything yourself
Training, guidance, and ongoing support are provided.
