Joule’s appoint architectural practice for Crown Wharf

Joules Stone AlesJoule’s Brewery has announced the appointment of an architectural practice for their new Crown Wharf development

Bleazard & Galletta LLP based in Wem, Shropshire will work closely with the brewery in designing their new Brewery Tap for Stone.
They will also explore the potential for a Studio Theatre space for occupation by Stone Revellers.
Finally, they’ll also be involved in looking at the provision of a heritage centre, to be operated by Stone Town Council.

Details of the breweries initial plans were backed by Stone Town Council early last year and were widely welcomed by the A Little Bit of Stone readers.

This is a significant first step for Joule’s in bringing forward plans for consultation since the site was acquired from the Canals and Rivers trust late last year.

Steve Nuttall Joule’s Brewery Director said;

“We haven’t worked with Bleazard and Galletta before, but we know their work, and we know of them.

This project needs a bespoke and imaginative approach and we wanted to work with a firm that thinks laterally and will look at the project without any preconceptions.

The firm also has a reputation for great technical strength and it is likely this project will have some complexity, it is also the biggest project we have ever attempted.

We are delighted with the selection and we are looking forward to submitting plans for consultation in the next few months.”

Jim Entwistle of Bleazard Galletta said;

“This is an exciting project to work on, I have worked on a number of Joule’s pubs in the past and they all have an individuality and tailored approach, every project is fresh and different.

This project is very special, Joule’s back in Stone for the first time since 1974.

The brief is very open and intriguing – A building that echoes the past, utilising reclaimed materials enjoying a second life, but is determinedly fresh and original. The canal side setting is fabulous, we are really looking forward to getting started.”
