The history of Joule’s brewery will be told in a special exhibition at the Crown Hotel on Saturday 2nd April.
The award-winning brewery was established in Stone in 1780. It was taken over by Bass Charrington in 1970 and stopped brewing in Stone four years later, but is still an iconic name and brand for the town.
The Joule’s name lives on, with the licence-holding brewery now based in Market Drayton, which has a number of pubs across Staffordshire (not yet in Stone). But it will be memorabilia from the brewery’s Stone days that will be on show at the Crown Hotel between 10am and 4pm.
A Heart of England Camra spokesman said: “The exhibition provides an exciting chance to rekindle memories from the past when Joule’s and other breweries were a thriving industry in Stone.
“The Joules items were bought at auction by some of the original branch members after the brewery had closed in Stone. They have been stored ever since in roof spaces and garages, so this is the first time they have been seen by the world at large.”
Stone town mayor Rob Kenney will open the exhibition.
If you have any Joules items you would like to include in the exhibition, take them to the Crown Hotel on the day before 9.30am. The items must be clearly labelled with your name and address.
