The Keep Westbridge Park Green petition was handed in to Stafford Borough Council on Tuesday containing 4,771 signatures from the online and paper petitions.
The petition was handed in by town councillor Rob Kenney and borough councillor Jill Hood ahead of a meeting of Stone Town Council that will be held at Alleyne’s High School on Tuesday 20th November at 7pm. Stafford Borough Council will be presenting on their Local Plan – the document that identifies Westbridge Park as a site for mixed-use development – and their forthcoming leisure strategy for Stone which recommends a new leisure centre at the park.
The meeting has been moved from the town council to the theatre at Alleyne’s High School because of the large number of people who will want to attend.
The Keep Westbridge Park Green campaigners, meanwhile, have also been putting banners up around the town promoting their campaign and the meeting at Alleyne’s. You can find out more about the campaign at www.keepwestbridgeparkgreen.org

My husband and myself have lived in Stone for 27 years. We have walked out dogs over the years all around the park and onto Aston Lock. We need to keep this for the future. We have always shopped in the local supermarket and local shops. We feel that we do not!!! need another supermarket, the government is proposing that everybody should be more healthy and eat less fat etc. Why don’t we leave Westbridge Park as it is just tidy it up a little. LEAVE WESTBRIDGE PARK ALONE STAFFORD COUNTY COUNCIL I am also going to write to Staffordshire County Council.

No decision has been made, the Borough council is still in the consultation phase. Wait until you have had an opportunity to see what is being proposed.

And 1 more to that number
Progress is the way forward
Sorry but I have to say that 4000 plus signatures from people that don’t yet know what is going on there. No wonder Stone is stuck in the dark ages when the place is not allowed to develop. The mind boggles!

Let’s stop using the Borough Council’ phrasing of “mixed use development”. That’s just council speak for the fact they want to sell the land to a supermarket – read their own documents for the details. So if you don’t want a supermarket on Westbridge Park go to the meeting on Tuesday and make your objections loud and clear.

Richard, are you referring to the retail need assesment carried out by WYG.
Yes, the document states that a supermarket is required in Stone and that Westbridge Park is the best location for it, but as yet no decision has been made regarding a supermarket on that site.
