After a rigourous selection process, Jacqueline Brown has been selected as Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Stone, Great Wyrley & Penkridge.
Jacqueline will take on Sir Gavin Williamson, who was selected as the Conservative Party candidate back in June last year. We expect additional candidates to come forward as we get closer to calling a general election.
A Labour Party spokesperson has said:
“A former headteacher, Jacqueline has a robust record of public service. She holds elected office as both Parish and Borough Councillor. She now runs her own business and continues to care passionately about her community.”
Speaking after her selection, Jacqueline said:
“I am delighted to be selected as the candidate to provide a fresh start in the market towns and villages of Stone, Great Wyrley & Penkridge.People across this new constituency are ready for change. They want to build a sustainable future with high quality jobs and investment in green economic growth; a secure future in which both urban and rural communities feel safer. I will campaign for local people to benefit from more GP & Dentistry appointments as a Labour government gets the NHS back on its feet. I will use my experience as a teacher to break down barriers for our young people.
I pledge to work for my constituents alone and will not take on additional jobs. I will be a visible, dedicated MP who champions the people of this area, ensuring our concerns are heard in Parliament. It’s time for a new approach to politics and a new voice for our brand new constituency.”

It’s going to be the promised land if Labour gets elected all they will do is ruin the country again like they did in the 70’s

The Conservatives have already ruined the country for us all anyway.

This is such brilliant news. Having campaigned alongside Jaqueline, I couldn’t think of a more compassionate, intelligent, and hardworking candidate. She’ll make a great local representative, and I’ll look forward to voting for her later this year.

Such a shame we have to put up with this tumerous constituency designed wholly by the conservative government to sway votes their way. We have lost surrounding towns such as swynnerton, barlaston, and eccleshall. All which play an important part in our town and wider economy. Now we must be related with two very separate towns that our only commonality with is the county we share. This boundary commission was a pathetic attempt and gerrymandering and I hope the people of stone wake up and smell the coffee before they sleepwalk into another thirteen years of chaotic Tory rule.

You do realise that the boundary review was an entirely independent process, right? Changing reality to suit your narrative doesn’t really work. Stone is a unique area and unfortunately it is now too big to be combined with Stafford as it once was, as well as the old consstituency also not being suitable. It’s fair enough to complain about it being grouped with Penkridge etc, but to say that it’s some sort of gerrymandering is not only laughable, but almost defamatory

It’s amazing how close this next election could be in the new constituency. A Survation poll last week predicted Labour could win the seat, while electoral calculus.com has the Conservatives and Labour running neck and neck. Jacqueline Brown could well be the first MP for Stone, Great Wyrley & Penkridge and Labour’s first MP in this area since Sylvia Heal back in 1990.
