Landlord confirms former High Street Co-op to become B&M

B&M BargainsIt’s been eight months since the Co-op closed on Stone High Street but we can reveal that an agreement has been signed to bring B&M to the town

Property landlord Yisroel Schreiber exclusively released details to A Little Bit of Stone of the new tenant this weekend.

Mr Schreiber told A Little Bit of Stone:

“Good news! We have signed an agreement to lease on Friday with B & M Bargains. The agreement means that we need to carry out certain works to the former Co-op unit and then B & M will take a lease.

“It’s anticipated that the works will take no longer than 5 weeks with B & M are hoping to be open for business before Christmas 2018”

There has been repeated speculation about B&M’s interest in the unit, so it’s good to be able to report that the interest has resulted in a deal.

B&M was formed in 1978 and is now one of the leading variety retailers in the UK.

From its first store in Blackpool, Lancashire, B&M has grown to over 560 stores and employs over 28,000 staff. B&M believe in selling top branded products at low prices and attract over 3 million customers through their doors a week.

The Stone store will add to B&M’s stores in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The introduction of such a retailer to Stone High Street will help expand the current retail mix on offer. Stone is renowned for its unique independent shops so a mainstream High Street brand will complement the current offering.

A spokesperson for B&M, said:
“We are pleased to announce that we are taking over the Co-op store in Stone.
“We hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store and we’re looking forward to welcoming them through the door later this year.”

This is such good news for the town, bringing in trade from people who would normally travel to Stafford and Trent Vale to visit B&M, no longer will the Arcade appear closed as it’s been in darkness for so long. affordable toys will be on offer something we’ve missed in the High Street for many years. It will have a real knock on effect with shoppers going to B&M hopefully shopping at other areas in the town and stopping for food and drink at our various cafes, restaurants and pubs. In my opinion good news all round!
