Last day for Mobile Testing Unit in Stone

Tomorrow (Sunday 2nd August) will be the final day for the Mobile Testing Unit on Crown Street Car Park in Stone.

Over the weekend we had a limited update on the testing figures, but the positive test count stands at a total of 18, up from 16 yesterday, largely being young adults. This figure is the official number linked to the incident at the Crown & Anchor over the weekend of 16th, 17th, and 18th of July

The Stone Mobile Testing Unit will be open form 10.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday – and the quickest way is to book online. People will need to choose the ‘I am in a lockdown area with a coronavirus outbreak’ option, even though there is no lockdown in Stone, in order to complete the booking.

Tests are by appointment only and can be booked online at www.nhs.co.uk/coronavirus. The permanent testing sites at the Bet365 Stadium and at Beaconside in Stafford will remain available to book either online or by phoning 119 if people have symptoms.

The county council has been working with the NHS Partners and Stafford Borough Council to run the unit and more than hundreds of people have already been tested.

Dr Richard Harling, Staffordshire County Council’s Director of Health and Care said: “We have had a huge response to our appeal for people to come forward and get tested if they were at the pub that weekend or have been in close contact with anyone who was.

“While young people are likely to suffer very mild symptoms the risk to grandparents or other vulnerable members of their friends, family and local community can be potentially very serious. So even if you don’t have symptoms please pop along and get tested as this is the best way to protect your community.”

Further information about how people can reduce the risk of spreading the virus is available at www.staffordhire.gov.uk/coronavirus.
