The official launch of this year’s Stone Music and Arts Festival is being held at the Crown Hotel on Friday 27th May, with local band Drivin’ South set to get the town in the mood!
The newly-formed band will be performing their cover versions of rhythm & blues classics like I’d Rather Go Blind and Feels Like Rain.
There will also be two other acts on the bill. Local singer Laura will be singing several of her own compositions accompanied by acoustic guitar and snare drum. Also, renowned singer-guitarist Geoff Shaw – currently living in Stone, but via Canada and Cambridge – will be performing an eclectic set of acoustic guitar-backed numbers.
The evening is preceded at 7pm by the opening of an art exhibition by Year 8 pupils from Christ Church Middle School.
As part of broadening the festival’s remit into the arts, the youngsters’ work will be exhibited over the festival weekend. The theme is ‘Buildings and Structures’ and will focus on Stone.
Twenty A3 pieces of work have been chosen by the school and voting by the public for the top three will take place over the festival weekend. These top three pictures will be framed for the school and the top three artists will also receive a prize of art materials.
There’s lots more going on over the big festival weekend. Check the official website for details.
