The snow that fell on Stone today looks set to stick around for a while as sub-zero temperatures grip much of the Midlands.

Temperatures on Saturday night/Sunday morning were expected to drop to -6C, with thermometers not expected to rise above 0C all next week. And more snow is forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

The county council’s gritting operation is in full swing, with lorries gritting main routes from 6pm in the evening and at around 6am each morning. Side roads are going to be pretty treacherous, however, and residents have been asked to take extra care.
