The festive season officially starts in Stone on Thursday 22nd November with the Christmas lights switch-on in the town centre.
The switch will be flicked by slalom canoeist Lizzie, a member of Stafford and Stone Canoe Club, at 7pm. Lizzie did Stone proud at the Olympics in the summer and narrowly missed out on a place in the final of her event after a brilliant first-round performance. She’ll be back in her home town in November to do the switch-on honour after performing the honours at the Food and Drink Festival recently.
There’ll be lots going on in the town centre from 5pm until 8.30pm on switch-on night, all compered by Stafford Radio. Stone’s Ben Owen, Sophie Bohanan and Phoenix will kick things off before 7pm, with Stone Town Band and Stone Schools Combined Choir also performing. Beggaz Belief will play live after the switch-on and Stoke’s Ollie Marland is also performing. There will be a fairground on the High Street and lots of food stalls and stalls from local not-for-profit organisations.
