Linley 0 – Stone RUFC 66

We’ll be following the fortunes of Stone Rugby Club in the Merit League this season. Here’s the first report…

A much-changed Stone Rugby Club side travelled away on Saturday 13th October to face Linley. The Stone team were dominant from the kick-off, however, with the constant pressure resulting in a try for skipper John Bekalo.

The Stone back line caused problems all day with the impressive Joe Powell getting a brace, followed by the evergreen Richard Borgman pouncing on a mistake and crossing the line. Number 10 Joe Barr kicked some impressive conversions as Stone piled on the points.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Matthew Harte and Stan the man scoring, meaning the back row had all scored. Three further tries for Powell completed the scoring. This was Stone at their free-flowing best, manful in defence and clinical in attack, despite the muddy conditions.

The final score was an impressive 66-0. A much tougher test is to come next week, however, away at Leek in the Merit League.

More information about Stone Rugby Club on their website. Training is on Tuesday nights from 7pm at Stone Hockey Club and all new players of all abilities are welcome.
