Live music weekend planned at The Bridge to raise funds for Meningitis Now

A full weekend of live music is planned at The Bridge as the pub hosts a charity fundraiser in support of Meningitis Now.

The event will take place across Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February, with performers donating their time to help raise as much money as possible for the charity.

The fundraising weekend has been organised by Audrey Young, who recently took over as landlady of The Bridge. She said the idea came after becoming aware that existing charity collection boxes had been compromised before her arrival, something she described as upsetting. Audrey also told us that it’s in memory of Rhiannon who’s sadly missed by her friends and family, and who are very welcome to come along and remember her.

In response, Audrey decided to organise a positive community event and reached out to contacts in the entertainment industry, who agreed to take part.

Live music will run every hour across both days, starting from 3 pm. A wide range of local performers are involved, with a mix of solo artists and bands scheduled across the weekend.

On Saturday 31 January, the line-up includes Aaron Ashley, Hannah Sings, Hannah B, Khloe Louise and Tracey J. The evening will also feature a full headline set from The Pluckers, starting from 8.30 pm.

Sunday 1 February will see performances from Craig and Caroline, Emma K, JJ Lee, Connor Bligh, Ian McKenzie, Mike and the Floor Fillers, and Samantha James.

All performers are donating an hour of their time, helping to ensure that funds raised on the weekend can go directly to the charity.

Local support is also coming from outside the music scene. Baker George Gannon will be providing catering during the event, adding another local element to the fundraiser.

Alongside the live entertainment, The Bridge is also hoping to run a raffle over the weekend. Audrey has said that donations of raffle prizes are still needed, with the aim of boosting the total amount raised for Meningitis Now.

Anyone able to contribute a prize is encouraged to get in touch with the pub directly.

Audrey has also confirmed that this will not be a one-off. Plans are already in place for another charity event later in the summer, which will raise funds for Dougie Mac.

The live music weekend is open to the community, with organisers encouraging people to come along, enjoy the entertainment, and support the cause.
