Lizzie blown away by opening ceremony

Lizzie at the Team GB accommodation block on Friday night before beginning the walk to the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony

Stone’s London 2012 Olympian Lizzie Neave says the opening ceremony on Friday night was an amazing experience that she’ll never forget.

The spectacular ceremony directed by Danny Boyle got London 2012 off to an amazing start. It was amazing just to watch it on TV, so to be a part of it must have been incredible. Lizzie, who begins her quest for a gold medal on Monday in the canoe slalom, wrote about the ceremony on her blog

“It was an incredible experience to be part of the opening ceremony and one that I will never forget. The evening started with a photo of the women’s canoe slalom competitors at the Olympic rings in the village.

“Then we spent the first 45 minutes of the ceremony on the 8th floor balcony of the Team GB accommodation block, looking across to the Olympic Stadium and watching the TV coverage, before joining the rest of the team to march to the stadium.

“This took almost 2 hours, but passed very quickly, as we walked past hundreds of excited children, who were chanting “Team GB, Team GB” and shaking hands, high fiving and requesting autographs.

“Entering the stadium was amazing, so much support from the crowd and such an immense feeling to be part of something so special. All plans for our marching formation went out of the window, as we were all overcome with excitement!

“We arrived back to our hotel to climb into bed about 2am, and whilst it was a bit of a struggle to get up for training this morning, it was well worth the late night!”
