Lizzie Neave to switch on Christmas lights!

Stone’s London 2012 Olympian Lizzie Neave will be switching on our Christmas lights this year.

The switch will be flicked by slalom canoeist Lizzie, a member of Stafford and Stone Canoe Club, at 7pm on Thursday 22nd November. Lizzie did Stone proud at the Olympics last month and narrowly missed out on a place in the final of her event after a brilliant first-round performance.

She’ll be back in her home town in November to do the switch-on honour – and I’m sure she’ll get a hero’s welcome!

There’ll be lots going on in the town centre from 5.30pm on switch-on night.

The night will be hosted by Stafford Radio and the Stone Schools Combined Choir will be performing, as well as some traditional festive tunes from Stone town band. Phoenix and Beggaz Belief will play live after the switch-on until 8pm. There will also be a fairground on the High Street with rides for all ages.

Organisers Stone Town Council now want to hear from local charities and other organisations who would like a free stall on the High Street to raise funds. Also, local food providers that want to attend should get in touch with the town council as soon as possible to book a slot. Food concessions will be required to pay a fee.

Call Stone Town Council on 01785 619740.
