A woman had a lucky escape from a flat fire on Church Road, Stone last night.
Firefighters from Stone and Longton were called to the incident in the early hours of this morning at 1.42am. The incident involved a pan that had burnt dry on the cooker hob and smoke logged the property. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus ventilated the smoke from the ground floor flat.
Watch Manager Mike Burnside said: “The lady was really lucky that she realised there was a fire as she had a smoke alarm but there was no battery fitted. So at 2.30am this morning, once we’d dealt with the incident, we fitted a smoke alarm. We’ve arranged to re-visit this weekend and carry out a safe and well visit to ensure the lady is as safe as possible from fire in her home in the future.
“This lady had recently moved into the property – when you move house you should never take it for granted that any existing smoke alarms are working. Ensure you have a smoke alarm on each floor of your home and check it works on a weekly basis – it really could save your life. The last crew left the incident at 2.42am.
