Stone’s Lymestone Brewery are planning to open their first pub in the town, just 100 yards from their brewery off Mount Road.
The brewery is based on the Mount Road Industrial Estate and Lymestone have submitted a planning application to Stafford Borough Council to convert the old schoolhouse on the edge of the estate into their first Stone pub.
Lymestone already have a pub in Newcastle – the Lymestone Vaults – which opened in November 2012 and has won a string of awards.
We spoke to head brewer Ian ‘Brad’ Bradford at the Stone Festival Party in the Park on Friday night, where Lymestone Brewery ran a very popular bar.
Brad said: “We’re really excited about opening a pub in Stone and we’ve been looking for a suitable premises for some time now. The building we’re looking at needs quite a bit of work to make it happen, and there are lots of hoops to jump through with planning permission, but we’d love to be open in time for Christmas this year.
“Like the Vaults, we’re hoping to create something a bit different in Stone. It will very much be a ‘micro-pub’ with great ales, ciders and some spirits. There is no cellar in the building, so ales will be available from casks. We’re looking at the possibility of doing food as well. But the most important thing is that it will be a quality pub with a great, welcoming atmosphere and something different for the people of Stone.”

Good news! There are only 2 or 3 pubs in Stone that are really welcoming and our favourite is a good 25 mins walk away. From a purely selfish point of view it would be great to have a pub that was nearer and I think Stone needs a bit of competition pub-wise.
