Children from Stone’s Manor Hill Nursery are stepping up in a big way for their classmate Edith Nettleton, who is currently battling leukaemia.
They are participating in a sponsored walk at Cannock Chase to raise funds for her treatment and support her family during this challenging time.
In a heartwarming display of care and compassion, some of the youngest residents of Stone are coming together for a personal cause. The little learners of Manor Hill Nursery are planning the sponsored walk, in support of their friend, on Sunday, the 12th of May.
A Just Giving Page has been set up for the fundraising efforts, and here’s the information: – https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Edith-Nettleton
“Myself along with all the other parents and teachers at school were heartbroken when we heard of 4 year old Edith’s Leukaemia diagnosis.
It’s hard to imagine how the Nettleton family must be feeling and the impact her illness and treatment will now have on the family.
Edith’s classmates, their families and her teachers want to do all we can to support her and her family through the trying times ahead. We will be ‘going the extra mile’ (1 mile gruffalo trail sponsored walk), holding bake sales, own clothes days, stalls and anything else we can to think of over the coming months.
Edith now faces six months of intensive treatment, which will result in a significant increase in both the practical and emotional support that her parents need to provide. Family life will be challenging, exhausting, stressful and will continue to be the case for a considerable amount of time after treatment is complete.
It’s a long road ahead for the family as they focus on getting Edith better. Funds raised through this effort will help offset a loss of income as they focus on what’s most important – supporting Edith through her treatment and taking care of their family – and the additional costs associated with that care, including the cost of travel, bills, accommodation, amendments at home and provide extra treats for Edith.
I am reaching out to anyone who can make a donation to help support Becky, Dan and Edith. The love and support from friends and family near and far will get them through this.
All donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly to Edith – her treatment, care, support, an overwhelming desire to get better and the family’s chosen charity Molly Ollys. Molly Ollys is a charity that has truly helped Edith understand what to expect during her treatment, she has her own Olly the brave lion who has a central line and a detachable mane along with books that tell the story of the journey of Olly and his family through being diagnosed, receiving treatment and going through various other experiences associated with serious illnesses.
Molly Ollys supports children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to help with their emotional wellbeing. They provide gifts to individuals and donate therapeutic toys and books to both children directly and to hospitals throughout the UK.”
The decision to hold a sponsored walk came as a natural extension of a nursery-related community WhatsApp group that was set up to help parents and their kids socialise.
Alice Webster, creator of the WhatsApp group explained to A Little Bit of Stone:
“In February this year, I set up a Whatsapp group for the Little Learner because I was feeling lonely, and I didn’t like that my son wasn’t having play dates outside of school. We recently moved back to Stone, so I wanted my son Jacob to have a positive transition.
I already knew a couple of parents from the nursery and when I spoke to them, they also shared the same vision that they were feeling it a lonely experience and found it difficult to speak to parents.
So, the group was born. It grew from word of mouth, and we have been on a couple of walks already so the parents can talk to each other in a safe and non-pressurising experience while the children play together in the great outdoors!
It’s been a really big hit, with all the parents advising how much they love it, and I’ve had some wonderful feedback because nothing like this has been done before!
Because the group was set up for get-togethers and walks, we knew this was what we needed to do to show solidarity with Edith, and it was so relatable to both the family and the nursery class.
We plan to do further fundraising throughout the year and we are currently seeking donations also for a raffle that will be drawn in the summertime at Manor Hill. Any donations are greatly appreciated – please reach out on alicejuliewebster28@gmail.com”
