Match Report – Stone Old Alleynians Vs Cheadle Heath Nomads

Hallmark Security League Div 1 (South)

Saturday 12th January 2019

Another home victory for Stone Old Alleynians pushed them up to 3rd place in the League.

In the first half Stone started on the front foot and dominated the half with some delightful football, pegging Cheadle back in their own half. They went in front after 7 mins, an excellent run by Jimmy Lee, who left three defenders in his wake and set up Sam Wilson to volley home.

It took the Old Boys over half an hour to get their second, although the visitor’s defence had been under constant pressure for almost all the time. Jack Tomlinson broke clear halfway into the away half, forcing Aaron Tyrer to rush out of his goal to the corner of the penalty area. Realising that it was the wrong decision, he then tried to back peddle only to slip over allowing the quick thinking Tomlinson to move to the right and fire into the centre of an unguarded goal.

Into added time and the Alleynians got their third. It was ace poacher Tomlinson again chalking up his second, when the Nomads left full-back tried to find a colleague on the edge of the area, only for Tomlinson to nip in front of him and easily beating Tyrer to give the Old Alleynians a three goal advantage at half time.

The second half was somewhat different. A combination of Stone getting complacent and Cheadle’s half time talk changed the game. If not a reversal of the first it was the Nomads who had the vast majority of possession. The Old Boys back four of Will Byers, Danny Heard, Ollie Davies and Rich Hall stood firm, and there was always the safe hands of Adam Alcock behind them.

Despite the pressure, it wasn’t until the 89th min that Cheadle got a consolation scored by Kieran Herbert with a very good shot, giving Alcock no chance. Although there was a lot of additional time, giving the visitors another chance it was Stone Old Alleynians registering their 11th home win of the season.
