Match Report: Stone RUFC vs. Uttoxeter Rugby Club

Stone RUFC made the short journey to Uttoxeter to face their 2nd team in their season opener.

Uttoxeter ‘s 2018/19 campaign had started a week earlier with a 60-0 victory, the boys in green and burgundy knew it would not be a walk in the park.

Uttoxeter got the game going and made an instant impression after a fumbled catch lead to the home team scoring. Uttoxeter -7, Stone-0. The away team settled and cancelled out the advantage with Dom Hitchen running through to score under the posts.

The next few minutes consisted of end to end play before Uttoxeter made use of their weight advantage in the scrum to make it 12-7. Stone bounced back again and on his full debut Adam Dow, sprinted down the wing to level the scores once more. The second half started slowly with neither team able to make serious ground. The game then opened up as both Uttoxeter and Stone had a man sent to the sin bin; Danny Cutler took advantage and scored his first of four tries. Both teams upped the aggression and as the injuries mounted so did the yellow cards with another 2 men sent to the bin.
