A major highway scheme in Stone which will support a business development creating up to 2,200 jobs reaches another milestone this week with the re-opening of Meaford Road.
Meaford Road reopens on Wednesday 25th May after being closed for 12 months as part of the project which will pave the way for the construction of the new business park and gas fired power station by developer St Modwen. The scheme has also included reconstruction of part of the A34 where a new roundabout has been built, allowing easier access to the site.
The project was the county’s second Government Growth Deal funded project to get off the ground and included the construction of new roundabouts on Meaford Road at its junctions with the A34 and Rookery Lane to allow easy access to the business park site.
Some traffic management will be needed on Meaford Road at some periods over the next few weeks while final works are completed.

The Meaford scheme is an important one for Staffordshire as it will pave the way for over 2,000 jobs and significant investment. This is the largest brownfield development site in the county and one we all want to see brought back into productive use.
“Our supporting works have not just been about building new roundabouts – it’s creating all the infrastructure that will make the site developable. We would again like to take this opportunity to thanks people for their patience while the scheme is carried out. This is an important development for Staffordshire which will bring real economic benefits to our county.”[/box]
