From Monday, January 29, roadworks will kick off on the A513 Beaconside and Redhill roundabout on the A34

These 13-month roadworks are part of the planning obligations for the Taylor Wimpey Marston Grange residential development off A513 Beaconside and are funded and managed by Taylor Wimpey.

The works include the following:

  • The dualling of the A513 Beaconside, between Stone Road and Marston Lane, including the signalisation of the existing junction with Parkside Avenue
  • The creation of a new signalised junction on the north side of the A513 and the signalisation of Newbold Drive
  • The reconfiguration of the existing A34 roundabout at the junction with A513 Beaconside and A34 from the M6 roundabout at Creswell to a signalised roundabout.
  • Carriageway widening and installation of permanent traffic signals

Further details of the proposed works can be seen in the scheme layout plans.

The Taylor Wimpey communications team have provided the following FAQ’s:

Why has it taken so long for this work to start?

Taylor Wimpey has been engaged in detailed discussions with Staffordshire County Council to confirm arrangements on a number of points, such as the phasing of works, the overall programme and some land ownership issues. These discussions are now concluded, and we are able to start work during the week commencing 29th January 2024.

The decision has been made to combine the Redhill roundabout improvement works with the widening of the existing Beaconside road layout that was previously scheduled to ensure minimal disruption to residents and commuters when the planned works occur.

Why have you chosen this approach?

The traffic management proposals have been created to minimise the disruption to local residents and to ensure emergency vehicles have safe passage through the works site at all times.

Will there be any road closures in the area as a result of the works?

We anticipate that there will be some minor delays when travelling in the area due to the extent of the work that is taking place, which will include the installation of temporary traffic lights.

Overnight road closures will be required towards the end of the work schedule to ensure surfacing works are completed seamlessly.

This is going to add long delays to my journey time

We are sorry for any disruption that these works will cause. We will be doing everything we can to minimise disruption whilst working to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible. Taylor Wimpey and their Contractor will engage regularly with Staffordshire County Council to ensure the correct traffic management plan is implemented at all times.

How will these works benefit me?

These works were a condition of the planning permission that was granted for our Marston Grange development and were requested by Stafford Borough Council in order to ensure the road layout around the A513 Beaconside can accommodate an increased number of road users, whilst also bringing a number of benefits.

These benefits include:

  • Reducing journey times
  • Easing congestion
  • Improving safety for all road users

Can you get the Japanese to complete the works please, they would be finished in three months

  • Why on earth have they also permitted roadworks to commence at the Dog & Dublet? The main alternative to Staffird from Stone!!!!

Let’s hope they get rid of the harsh rumble strips on the A34 as you approach the Redhill roundabout!

With the new junctions they’re no longer needed, and I’ve yet to find a car that can drive over them at more than 20 mph without discomfort.

The A34 into Stafford has had some form of work going on for pretty well the past two years and now a further 13 months of disruption starts in a week. There will be extra pressure on Eccleshall Road as a result with and Creswell & Great Bridgeford no doubt seeing heavy traffic flows through their villages.
I really hope that proper traffic light controls are put in place to stop traffic crossing the A34 causing back-ups on the A34.
