New Aldi store to open in June

Stone’s new Aldi store will be opening its doors for the first time in June.

The roadworks on the A34 – which will have traffic lights and a new lane layout at the entrance to the discount store – are progressing. But the opening date has slipped back a bit.

In October last year, a senior figure from Aldi vowed that the new store in Stone would be open by March or April, despite previous delays to essential roadworks on the A34 at the site.

Aldi’s regional managing director Dan Ronald said that the new store would still be open as planned in the spring. He said: “The biggest delay so far has been the movement of underground pipes but we are still on schedule. The roadworks are not a simple thing to do but the delay has not affected when we plan to open.”

A Little Bit of Stone did ask Aldi for a comment on the new opening date but so far there has been no response.

When plans for the new store were submitted to Stafford Borough Council, opinion was divided, with 43 letters submitted in support – and 43 letters against the proposal. The supermarket will have retail floor space of 1,125 square metres and parking spaces for 75 vehicles.

Are you looking forward to the Aldi store opening in June?

Whilst I would agree that choice is a good thing and the Morrisons & Co ops
are quite capable of coping with the competition I cannot help but wonder at the impact on the
    smaller stores.
Stores like Londis have served the people of Walton well for many years and in the present climate can do without foreign competition.

The length of time and the disruption to traffic has been a disgrace and for what?

I live in Walton and Aldi will not be getting my custom!

  • I prefer my mainstream supermarkets for my favourite brands, however I always try Aldi’s alternatives when I do go as you can be amazed. Aldi cinema popcorn is the best cinema style popcorn anywhere, Aldi’s chocolate is also top quality. Its just there range can be hit and miss there are some great products at Aldi, however there are some aweful ones too. Its a good shop for a quick top up shop.

    • Hi Gavin. Thanks for the comment. I’m definitely going to give Aldi a go when it opens in Stone and see how I get on. A few bags of that popcorn will be in the trolley that’s for sure 🙂

  • I think it’s really great that Stone will be getting an Aldi. Things are tough financially for many people and food at Aldi is cheaper than the other big-name supermarlkets. I’ll be shopping there. People say the quality of the food is prteety good too

    • aldi is rubbish

    • It’s not always cheaper to shop at Aldi, I’ve gone back to main stream supermarkets for better overall value, longer shelf lives & branded products. It’s good to have the choice though.

      • Hi Sue. You’re right, it’s all about choice isn’t it? I’m certainly going to shop at the new Aldi and give it a go! Be good to reduce the food shop budget at the mo, that’s for sure 🙂
