Cyril Unsworth has had to draft in a new motorcycle for the next leg of his 25-county challenge to raise money for a new hall at St John’s Church.
His beloved Beamer, which he’s had for 25 years, has a leaking petrol tank, on top of some electrical faults last week.
Cyril has managed to get a replacement, however, and will be off as planned on Tuesday morning to Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.
Cyril writes…
“Oh the shame of it. My trusty BMW has finally bitten the dust. After all my electrical problems of last week were sorted, I went to do a little job in my garage and found that my petrol tank was leaking.
This was disastrous, not only expensive to repair but the time involved to have the tank repaired and painted would mean abandoning the ride. Not an option, so many people have been so supportive and sponsor forms are filling up.
So phone calls were made and arrangements for me to have a new (second hand) bike from Foley Motorcycles in Fenton. The guys pulled out all the stops, MOTd and taxed the bike, gave it a full service and I was riding it home at 3pm today, in time to set off tomorrow (Tuesday 15th March) at 8am to do Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.”
