New library unveiled at Walton Priory Middle School

The new library at Walton Priory was officially opened on Wednesday 13th October, with big changes making the space more accessible and practical for the students.

Councillor Jill Hood and Deputy Mayor Kerry Dawson officially open the new library

Councillor Jill Hood and Deputy Mayor Kerry Dawson were on hand to cut the ribbon on the impressive improvements, including the recent upgrade from desktop computers to 120 Chromebooks.

The books are colour coded to reading age, and the library has sections for classic, young adult, LGBTQ+, cultures, along with non-fiction and a selection of subscription magazines & newspapers.

The library has a comfortable, peaceful feel, with a sofa, comfy chairs, and the student’s clay artwork displayed around the shelves to make a space where the students can be immersed in the stories on the shelves.

A local firm donated half of the new shelves so that more of the budget could be used for books, and parents donations have boosted the shelves too. Students and teachers can also suggest a Book of the Month.
