A new traffic light junction installed on the A34 in Newcastle to create access to a residential development, with work beginning next week.
Starting on Tuesday September 1, the 12-week scheme the junction will provide access to student accommodation being built on the former Bristol Street Motors site on London Road when complete.
In addition, footway improvements will be carried out on Lyme Valley Road on the other side of the development. All works are being funded by the developer.
There will be traffic management on this section of the A34 throughout the scheme period so that the works can be carried out safely. This will include lane closures and two consecutive night-time closures later in the scheme. Further details on the closures will be issued closer to the time.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said: “The new signalised junction on this section of the A34 in Newcastle is necessary to provide safe access to the residential development. As part of the scheme there will also be pedestrian improvements on Lyme Valley Road.
“The A34 is one of the main routes into Newcastle and we want people to be aware of potential disruption in advance. This will be mainly lane closures.
“We’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while work is carried out.”
