The new traffic flow on the Christchurch Way section of the website is now in place.
Vehicles at the traffic lights next to the High Street have to stay in the right-hand lane if they want to go straight on.
A new island that’s currently being constructed makes it impossible to go straight on in the left-hand lane.
The left-hand lane is now reserved for vehicles turning left on to Lichfield Street.
Engineers are currently creating a larger traffic island to create just one lane on to Stafford Street after the Christchurch Way traffic lights. This should be finished by the end of the week.

Staffordshire Highways hopes the new system will make for better traffic flow around the ring road during peak times.
What are your thoughts on the new system?
Many drivers still seemed a bit confused this morning, staying in the left-hand lane as usual to go straight on before having to get in the right-hand lane at the traffic lights.

Not sure who came up with this whole idea – How is it possibly supposed to be better – It is now chaos. Queues to get off Morrisons as you need to sit in the right lane to get across – It worked just fine before.

Hi Stephen. You’re right, big queues in the right-hand lane this morning 🙁

Yes, I fail to understand how the same level of traffic is expected to go left or staight on (and therefore get a lane each). Surely the vast amount of people coming round the ring road would be continuing towards the A34 and not turning into Lichfield Road.
Hope I am proven wrong in the long run but I really think this should be changed back to before.

i now refuse to shop at morrisons after this fiasco, it was better before now there are queues everywhere.
the damn island needs ripping up!
surely morrisons must realise its made it a nightmare and has affected business!

This beggars belief. The new layout is very unsafe for the large numbers of vehicles leaving Morrisons. Traffic speeds on the by pass are often too high. Police and Highways should be calming traffic speeds not trying to increase them.

Keep getting caught out coming put of Morrisons can we have a sign on road there too pls?

That’s a really good point. There isn’t much time to get in the correct lane after the Morrisons turning. A sign would be a really good idea
