Local members of a national campaigning group presented a petition to four of the candidates for the Stone Parliamentary seat on Saturday (25th April).

The ‘Save The NHS’ petition has been collected in Stone and surrounding areas by ’38 Degrees’ members over the past few weeks, and stands at almost 2,000 signatures. It was presented to Conservative Sir Bill Cash, Labour’s Sam Hale, Martin Lewis (Liberal Democrats) and The Green Party’s Wenslie Naylon in the town centre.

Local member Josie Howell said: “We are asking on behalf of 38 Degree members, and numerous local people who share our concerns over the present state of the NHS, that all political parties address the public’s serious concerns on this matter. We want them to stop the privatisation of our NHS, to ensure the NHS receives adequate funding and that it is taken out of the TTIP trade deal with the US.”

David Babbs, Executive Director of 38 Degrees nationally, added: “People across the country came together on Saturday to spread the word about the NHS. We want to send politicians a clear message: If you want to sell off or run down our NHS, you’ll have a fight on your hands. People in Staffordshire stood with thousands of others across the country to stand up for our NHS.”

38 Degrees is one of the UK’s biggest campaigning communities, with over three million members. Nationally, almost 700,000 signatures for the Save The NHS petition have been collected.
